Enjoy the little moments

Today's episode we talk about how it is difficult to stop and enjoy the moments you are in. I have been struggling with this for such a long time. It has progressively gotten worse now that I am in college and away from my parents. Who have a knack for making me get out and enjoy the little things.

I have a bad habit of becoming too focused on my school work and not getting out to hang out with my friends. Something my mom reprimands me about during many of our phone calls. I am a young adult and there is no reason  I should be locking myself in my apartment every day and only leaving to go to the store or to class.

After having the latest interview I have been making sure that I take her advice to spend time in the slow lane. I try to do most of my homework for the upcoming week on Saturday-Monday so that I am better enjoy my week. I feel better during the weeks because I have been able to do many things that I wouldn't have otherwise done. For example, turns out I am pretty good at Axe Throwing.

I want to reiterate what my interviewee had said. Take time to be where you are. Enjoy the little things that happen and take a moment to live in those times.

I hope you guys enjoy the episode and take a moment to leave a review.

Once Upon A Goodbye

Don't worry this is not that last episode. We just had a good conversation about last goodbyes and toxic relationships. The girl that I interviewed today, said goodbye to her younger brother and hasn't seen him since. It was hard for her to realize that it was going to be the last goodbye. She talks about not taking your family for granted which is something I see a lot.

I pay attention to everything around me. I notice little things that other people don't. I see the way people treat their family, and it honestly hurts me. I remember when I was going back to school shopping with my family before my freshman year of college. I was in the dressing room trying on clothes and waiting for my sisters or my mom to bring me some more. I heard a mom and a daughter in a room near me, the mom was trying to talk to the daughter, but the daughter was being rude and nasty to her mom. I left the dressing room almost in tears and apologized to my mom for ever being rude to her.

My family is one of, if not the, most important thing in my life. I would be no where near the same person I am today, if it weren't for them. I attribute a lot of my success to my parents. Growing up I was told to never let others ruin my dreams. I have had some of the wildest and crazy dreams, at one point I wanted to go into the FBI, and my parents supported me until I changed my mind and went into something else.

I am well aware that there are family situations that are not the same as mine. I have known many people that didn't feel that safety and security that I felt growing up. I don't mean to tell my story as a way to rub it in other people's faces, but as a reminder that sometimes family is important. Family will always be an important part of your life. You can look at your family growing up and say one of three things. The first one being; I am not going to let my future family be like this. I want better and so I will work hard to change the things that I believe need to change. The second one is; I am OK with how things are. This is what works for me and my family so I am going to continue living in this way. The third thing is; I love how my family is. We are a very strong family unit and I was well supported. I want to make sure that future family is this strong together.

Either way you look at it, your family had an impact on your life.

Unconditional Love ~ Episode 2

I got the pleasure of interviewing one of my professors who has been such an inspiration for me. He was also really good at getting people out of their comfort zones and that is really what helped me be more confident in myself and my ability to do amazing things. I was about a week into his class when I walked into an assisted living facility here and showed them the questions and idea for my podcast. It wasn't the warm welcome I was expecting, but I called and talked my way into my first interview.

In the episode we have an amazing conversation about what unconditional love is and how important it is. I have to say I love this episode and I hope you do as well.

Interviews for days

I have been doing many interviews this weekend. I really want this podcast to be amazing for you guys. Its has been a dream of mine to do something like this and have a platform to share stories. I have heard some amazing things so far and learned somethings about the people that I thought I knew really well. I also got interviewed myself and I cannot wait for people to hear my story as well.

I am really excited about launching the podcast and really hope that it goes live tomorrow. This is an adventure that I have been very excited and nervous about starting. I have already learned so much and cannot wait to learn more. I have been in contact with someone who I am considering my mentor, he has given me such good advice about what I can do to help prepare me for my future and help me stand out among my peers who are also excited to join the work force after college.

Once Upon a Bright Idea

In September I moved across the country to go to school. I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Kansas visiting some family and friends from before I moved to Ohio. I also got to spend a couple hours a day with my great grandma. While I was spending time with her I got to hear some amazing stories that I hadn't heard before.  I also watched how the other resident's eyes lit up as I listened to their stories and asked questions. I realized that many people, especially once we get older, don't have many people to share with anymore. Especially not ones who are too eager to listen. I love listening to people's stories, I can learn so much from someone by asking them who their favorite singer or artist is.

That is where my podcast idea came from. I wanted to listen and share stories to people who want to listen. When I got to school I immediately  started calling around to find senior centers that would let me interview some of their residents. This was a process that would take a couple of weeks and make me realize that I would love to interview a wide range of people. So I talked my roommates into helping me with my crazy scheme that I wasn't sure would actually go anywhere. A few short weeks (5) after my semester started I am proud to announce that I am actually getting somewhere.

My crazy passion project is becoming a real life podcast and I couldn't be more proud of my hard work. Also super nervous. I have so many people that have helped me get this far, and I am only barely started. I haven't officially launched the podcast yet, and I will make a post as soon as I launch it.  I have done a couple of interviews and have many more lined up. I hope you guys are as excited as I am.
